For this post, I felt like watching NOT a Disney movie. This is a truly special post, huh? For this special post, I chose “An American Tail”. Mostly because I haven’t seen it in years and it was sitting on my desk for months. Sometimes, movies aren’t special for their animation but for their storyline.

Sequels are generally bad ideas. Not even Disney, the kings of brilliant ideas and great movies, can pull off a good sequel. With the upcoming release of movies like Toy Story 3 and a remake of Alice in Wonderland, I felt the need to re-affirm why my enthusiasm about these movies is missing. So the best choice film to critique: Disney’s first feature length animated sequel, Return of Jafar.

Dogs can just turn a person’s day around? When they come up to you and wag their tail, showing just how excited they are to see their best friend. No matter what happened that day, your dog is willing to put all his energy into making you laugh and play with them.It’s no wonder a movie about dogs can do the same thing.

So, I have made the executive decision to make this blog almost consistently to comment on Disney animations. Be it full-length movies or just little shorts they have released. I’m a child of the Disney golden-age and they all have a place in my heart. Well, with that now established, onto the real “good stuff”!

In 1959, Disney released their sixteenth animated film, Sleeping Beauty. This one, like many others, was based on a fairy tale that was rewritten to fit with a younger audience. The story wasn’t all that impressive. No, what was different about this film from the fifteen others, was the art. The art made this movie stand out amongst the rest. Continue reading
